 Sitia is located on the north east coast of Crete. It is a small city with a population of 8500 people. Even during the busy summertime peak, Sitia remains a cretan charm and laid back style.

Sitia has been inhabited since the Minoan period.
At Petras, to the east of the town, a section of ancient setlement has been excavated.There is a beautiful water front with restaurants bars and cafes, a large public beach and an archeological museum which holds many findings from excavations of the area.

Overlooking the Sitia bay you will find a wonderful Venetian Castle where concerts are held during the summertime. There is a daily boat that connecting passengers from the island to the mainland and a few of the other islands in the Agean.The archeological and the folk museum in Sitia are also worth to visit. The airport is situated at about 2 kms from the city.

Vai

 30 mins from Sitia and 5 mins from Palekastro you arrive at themarvellous palm beach forest of Vai. It's natural beauty and wild life are strictly protected .
The clear water and the golden sandy beach, surrounded by thousands of palm trees are peerless and attract year by year many visitors.
 

  The legend says the pirates that came from Africa used this perfect cove for shelter. They are the ones who brought the exotic fruit with them that became this beautiful palm beach forest.

  Makri Gialos

37 kms AWAY FROM SITIA. Known summer resort in the Libyan sea near to village Analipsi. Makri Gialos was once a tiny fishing village, but has now become popular resort due to the friendly local hospitality.
The village is still unspoilt compared with the larger resorts on the north coast and is an ideal spot for those searching for quiet holidays, with visitors returning year after year.
The name Makri Gialos means "long beach", which indeed it is the long sandy beach with crystal clear, shallow waters, is perfect for children and non-swimmers, and further out for more experienced swimmers.

 The beach is lined with a good variety of tavernas to suit all tastes, the fishing port being the most picturesque part of the village.

   Itanos

 Palekastro with its picturesque corners is situated ineastern Crete , 19 km from Sitia and 8 km from Vai. The advantageous position turns it into a center of physical, historical and archeological interest. Many km of beautiful seashores with deep blue water compose an unparallelled landscape.

for a friendly holiday destination: Traffic junction for busses from/to Sitia , Vai , Kato Zakros.


  Car rentals - rooms - apartments- villas next to the sea, shops, restaurants with a great selection of traditional foods as well as fish tavernas. Bars and discos provide an amusing and unforgettable night life. Due to its central position there are many trips available. An ideal starting point for the nearby villages , the archeological sites, the exotic Vai palm beach, the historical monastery of "Toplou", the picturesque fishing harbour of Kato Zakros with its Minoan palace as well as to many other beautiful places.
The great number of beaches close to Palekastro provide many facilities for doing all kinds of watersports, Kouremenos beach for example is known as Crete's best wind surfing area. The beach of Chiona, a combination of ancient civilisation and natural beauty with wonderful white sand and fish tavernas is worth a visit.
Next to the beach the excavation of an old important Minoan town is taking place. There remarkable findings are still being brought to light. Another nice place on the way from Palekastro to the Chiona beach is Agathias, a traditional Cretan vilage. During the last years it has developed into a quiet, pleasant summer resort for visitors who prefer a tranquil atmosphere.

  Zakros

Zakros is a short 20km trip of 20 km through the mountains. This green village with its fruit and gardens gives the place a special atmosphere. Continuing on through Zakros for another 6 km you reach the picturesque fishing harbour of Kato zakros is.
Next to the beach, a few meters behind the fishing tavernas the ruins of the 4th Minoan palace can be visited. Archeologists found several masterpieces of Minoan art there.
 The wild gorge from (Zakros to Kato Zakros) called the Valley of the dead, one of the largest in Crete and the wonderfull stalagmite cave are also well worth a loo.
